Live chess, without the searching

Chesseva is a free live chess viewer. It reads the public Lichess broadcast list and always opens the most important game being played right now: the highest-rated live board at the top-tier over-the-board event. Follow it move by move, or turn it into practice.

  • The headline game, automatically

Live clocks, the evaluation bar and graph, the opening, and every board of the round. When the headline game ends, the page moves on to the next highest-rated live board.

  • Guess the moves

Play along as White, Black or both and try to find each move the grandmaster chose. Stockfish tells you when your alternative is just as good. At the live edge you can lock in a prediction.

  • Important moments

Guess the move at the positions where the game was decided. Then see what was played, why the right move works, why the others fall short, and what to take into your own games.

  • Analysis and PGN

Explore any line on the analysis board with Stockfish running in your browser, then download the game as a PGN for your own database.

How does Chesseva choose which game to show?

When you first open the site it shows the game of the day: the most instructive game finished in the last day at the top events, judged by its turning points, how often the advantage changed hands and the result. It starts from the first move. Choosing "Auto" in the tournament menu switches to the top-tier event Lichess is broadcasting and shows its highest-rated live board. Between rounds it shows the best game of the last round and counts down to the next one. You can pick any tournament, round or board from the menus at the top, and the link in your address bar remembers your choice.

Where do the moves, clocks and evaluations come from?

From the public Lichess broadcast API, which relays official tournament feeds. The page refreshes every 8 seconds while games are live. Guess mode, important moments and the analysis board use Stockfish, which runs on your own device.

Do I need an account, and is it free?

No account is needed and it's completely free. Your theme and engine preferences are saved only in your browser.

Can I hide the engine to avoid spoilers?

Yes. Press E or the “Engine” button to hide the evaluation bar, graph and engine lines everywhere.
